A curated look at the kits expected to launch in the UK — what they include, what they cost, and how to choose.
EcoFlow
EcoFlow's flagship plug-in system pairs two 400W rigid panels with their PowerStream microinverter. Built-in Wi-Fi for real-time monitoring via the EcoFlow app, plus optional DELTA battery connection for energy storage.
Includes balcony railing mount hardware. Microinverter supports dual MPPT tracking for independent panel optimisation.
EcoFlow
Same 800W panel and inverter setup, bundled with the DELTA 2 Max (2,048Wh). Surplus daytime generation charges the battery; stored energy feeds back after sunset, extending self-consumption into the evening.
Self-consumption ratio estimated at 85–95% versus 65–75% without storage.
EcoFlow
Single-panel entry point for smaller balconies or renters testing the waters. Upgradeable to 800W later — the inverter supports dual input from day one.
Amazon UK
Amazon is expected to stock a range of 800W kits from multiple brands once BSI certification is in place. Typical: two 400W panels, Hoymiles or Deye microinverter, and balcony railing brackets.
Verify BSI certification, check G98 compliance, and confirm UK-standard plug cable.
Amazon UK
Budget-friendly entry point for small balconies or renters wanting a minimal-commitment trial. ~350–400 kWh/year south-facing in central England.
Amazon UK
Combo listings pairing 800W panels with a compatible power station (1,000–2,000Wh). Extends self-consumption into evening hours.
Lidl / Aldi UK
Both have sold balcony solar kits in German stores (Lidl's sold out in hours). UK equivalents expected once BSI certification lands. No-frills kits at aggressive price points for mass-market adoption.
Expect in-store specials rather than permanent stock. German consumer testing rates Lidl kits as good value.
Only buy kits that carry the UK BSI product standard mark once available. This confirms the system meets UK safety requirements.
Look for dual MPPT, G98 compliance, and IP67 weatherproofing. Hoymiles, Deye, and EcoFlow are established brands.
Modern monocrystalline PERC panels run at 20–22%. Avoid older polycrystalline panels — they perform worse in UK low-light.
Ensure the mount fits your railing or wall type. Adjustable tilt is a bonus — optimal UK angle is 30–35°.
UK kits should include a proper UK three-pin plug cable. Avoid European Schuko plugs requiring adapters.
Standard: 25 years (performance), 10–12 years (product). Microinverters typically 10–15 years.
