The BSI plug-in solar product standard is expected July 2026, and the government has confirmed kits are coming to UK shops this year. The compliant route to install in 2026 remains a CPS-registered electrician with a hardwired connection: BS 1363 (UK 13A plugs and sockets) and BS 7671 (wiring regulations) do not currently authorise plugging small generators into a wall socket. BSI's forthcoming product standard will certify specific plug-in solar kits as safe products. It does not by itself amend BS 1363 or BS 7671, so plug-in via a 13A wall socket is not made compliant by the BSI standard alone. The compliant install route remains a CPS-registered electrician.
