Since 27 August 2026 a kit is lawful to plug into a socket only if it appears on the ENA G98 Type Test Register. One hundred and nine do, though only twenty of those are on sale anywhere yet. They are listed first, with prices I have checked on the seller's own page and ranked by cost per watt. Below them sit the popular kits that are not on the register, which are still worth knowing about for what they actually do. New to this? Start with the plug-in solar explainer.
Seen on UK shelves. EcoFlow and Jackery are now stacked in Costco, with Currys, B&Q and Lidl following. Read the market note, set against Germany's balcony boom →

| Every verified figure was read on the seller's own page on the date shown, inclusive of VAT with delivery. Per watt is price divided by total panel wattage. 87 of the 109 listed kits have no public retail price yet and are left out rather than estimated. Rows marked reported come from a named publication rather than the seller and are excluded from the cheapest-kit figure. | ||||
What the numbers say. The median approved kit now costs £0.80 per watt of panel, tracked on our price index. Panel wattage buys itself. The best value on the list is a City Plumbing DMEGC 1030W at £0.45 a watt and the worst is the UKSOL Pro Compact 460W at £1.85, nearly three times the price for the same 800 VA of output, so if you have the space, size up. One caution on PatioSun, and it is the reason we now quote its checkout totals rather than its listed prices. The Duo is advertised at £549 and charges £649 at the checkout, a £100 gap we confirmed on 5 September 2026. Read the basket total before you commit, on that seller in particular. The mount costs more than you expect: the same UKSOL 890W kit is £849 on a hybrid mount and £1,199 on a ground mount. And the channel is no longer priced uniformly, which is a change from a fortnight ago. City Plumbing lists that 890W ground mount at £951.60 against £1,199 at Argos and at UKSOL direct, so a trade merchant is now worth checking before a consumer retailer. Eighty-nine of the one hundred and nine listed kits have no public retail price anywhere yet; the register tracker carries the full list including those.
Lead times are on their own page. Argos quotes nine weeks, Octopus quotes the end of September, four of these ten sellers publish no window at all, and collecting from a UKSOL depot saves up to £290. The detail is on where to buy, and how long the wait is.
UKSOL sells through both high-street retail and web shops, Thunder Energy and PatioSun sell their own kits direct, and Octopus Energy sells to its own customers. One thing worth knowing before you shop around, and it has changed in the last fortnight. UKSOL's consumer pricing is still uniform: the ground-mount 460W is £849 at Argos, £849 direct from UKSOL and £849 at Crampton & Moore. Trade merchants are not. City Plumbing lists the 890W ground mount at £951.60 against £1,199 everywhere else, a gap of £247 on the same kit, which is worth the trade account if you can open one. The 515W also moves a little, from £583.39 at iHelios to £599 at Argos. One caution on City Plumbing: a listing at £670.80 showed as a 515W hybrid on the product page and a 460W ground mount on the category page, so we have left it out of the table above rather than attach a price to the wrong model.

Panels and a microinverter, no battery, inside the 800W cap. Plug-in solar became legal on 27 August 2026 under SI 2026 No. 848, and 48 kits from 13 manufacturers now show as Compliant on the ENA G98 Type Test Register. EcoFlow is not one of them. Nothing in this block may be plugged into a socket and self-notified. It is lawful to buy for off-grid or portable use, or for a hardwired installation by a CPS-registered electrician. The approved kits are in the tables higher up this page.
Two 400W panels and an 800W microinverter, no battery. Status, 22 September 2026: EcoFlow is now on the ENA G98 register for the flat roof, facade and pitched roof mountings. The balcony mounting is not named in that entry, so this kit cannot yet be plugged in and self-notified. We have asked EcoFlow and will update this the day it changes. The cheapest kit you can lawfully plug in is on the register at £432.
Latest price at EcoFlow →also on Amazon UKAnything with a battery sits outside the plug-in route, because the legal definition excludes devices designed to import electricity in order to store it for later. These are still a good buy and still legal, they simply need a qualified electrician for a fixed install, or they work as portable units with no wiring at all.
